TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Sukhoi fighter jets intercepted a foreign airplane, forcing it to land in Juata Tarakan Airport, North Kalimantan, on Monday, November 9, 2015. The intercepted Cessna plane was piloted by Lieutenant Colonel James Patrick Murphy from the US Navy.
The plane was spotted breaching the Indonesian airspace without permit. "[The plane] was spotted at 2:31PM Western Jakarta Time. [The Air force] fighter jets manage to intercept it and force it to land,” said Head of Information Department at the Mulawarman Military District Command Colonel Andi Gunawan.
Andi said that the pilot has been secured at the AirNav Office in Juwata Airport, Tarakan. The pilot will be investigated for his violation.
