TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Professor Andrik Purwasito used five different languages as he animated Javanese traditional shadow puppets wayang kulit at the Indonesian Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria. The play entitled ‘Arjuno Sungsasmito’ was delivered in English, French, Indonesian, Javanese and Bulgarian languages on Thursday, October 29, local time.
Arjuna Sungsasmito tells a tale about the struggle of Arjuna with the appearance of humorous Punokawan characters. As the dalang (puppet master), Professor Andrik Purwasito wants to introduce the spirit of unity and values of Pancasila to the European society, especially Bulgaria.
The play attracted around 80 people who were mostly university students and Bulgarian citizens.
“Through this wayang play, Bulgarian society can study and get to know Indonesian culture,” said Indonesian Ambassador in Sofia, Bunyan Saptomo as reported on the official page of Indonesian Embassy in Sofia.
