TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Queen Margrethe II of Denmark visited the Yogyakarta Sultanate on Saturday.
On arrival at the palace, the queen was welcomed by Sultan HB X and wife GKR Hemas, as Javanese traditional music played.
Sultan HB X was flanked by four of his daughters - GKR Mangkubumi, GKR Condrokirono, GKR Maduretno and GKR Bendoro.
Sultan HB X later led the queen to the Proboyekso Chamber where the Sultan showed her the collection of items symbolizing palace's greatness, including kris and puppets.
At the chamber, the Danish queen was also shown the way rubber puppets are made and the batik painting technique.
Impressed by the batik painting, the queen took a seat for several minutes to observe the process.
The Danish queen and her entourage, accompanied by Sultan and GKR Hemas, later held a dinner and talks at the Jene Building.
The queen's visit lasted for more than an hour, ending later than initially scheduled.
"Sultan's position is great in Indonesia. I am glad that Sultan and family have welcomed me well," she said upon arrival at the Prambanan Temple, the next place she visited while in Yogyakarta.
