TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Germany’s oldest choir Rundfunkchor Berlin will be performing in three cities in Indonesia along with Indonesian choirs. The Grammy Award winner is scheduled to have their gigs in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 21, in Medan on Saturday, October 24 and in Bandung on Tuesday, October 27.
The choir that was formed in 1925 has 63 members with Simon Halsey as its lead conductor and artistic director since 2001. As many as 25 of the choir’s members will perform in Indonesia under Simon Halsey’s direction to celebrate the choir’s 90th anniversary.
Rundfunkchor is said to have prepared ambitious repertoires such as those by Schütz and Schönberg. The choir also aims to popularize Schönberg’s works that are less known in South Asia.
“German repertoires are of course the first choice, and Brahms is the most obvious option,” said Nicolas Fink who mentors Indonesian choirs to perform along side Rundfunkchor.
A special program is said to be arranged for the concert where audiences are invited to sing along with the choir.
