TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Visual artists from 22 countries around the world took part in the mass painting event in Borobudur on Friday, October 9. The event is part of 2015 Yogyakarta International Art Festival which was held starting from October 4 to 10 t Jogja National Museum Yogyakarta.
Contemporary dance ‘Jingkrak Sundang’ dance by Sanggar Saujana Keron was performed while the artists worked on their sketches on 600-meter canvas erected on the east of the world’s largest Buddhist temple.
Participants were coming from Europe, United States, Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Russia, Canada, Egypt, Peru, Serbia, Turkey, Philippines, Nepal, Poland and Indonesia.
“Some of them participate in the festival with support from their government, and some others takes part independently or with supports from donors,” said chief of the festival organizer, Hadi Soesanto.
The mass-painting event in Borobudur, Hadi said, is held in collaboration with local artists under Borobudur Artist Community (KSBI) whose works are exhibited at Jogja National Museum.
“This year is the festival’s first year, we have planned to make it a routine agenda with more participants from more countries,” said Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hemas when opened the exhibition on Saturday, October 10.
