TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After last year's success, the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival (UWRF) will be held again this year in Ubud, Bali. This time around, the event's theme is '17,000 Islands of Imagination'.
The festival will be held from October 28 to November 1 in Taman Baca, Indus Restaurant, and Neka Museum, all located on Ubud Sanggingan Road, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday, October 9.
As quoted from Wonderful Indonesia, the five-day annual event will feature discussion panels, workshops, book launches and film screenings.
The UWRF will also provide creative and artistic events such studying Bali's floral design, batik drawing, Ubud cycling tours, culinary tours, and a kitchen program featuring recipes from one of the oldest Sundanese tribes in Indonesia.
The event will invite 165 authors from 25 countries, including international writers Mohsin Ahmad (How to get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia), Anchee Min (Pearl of China), Nam Le (The Boat), and Lonely Planet founders Tony and Maureen Wheeler.
Other authors confirmed to be there are Christina Lamb, Michael Chabon, Mpho Tutu, Raditya Dika, Ayu Utami, Teju Cole, Anuradha Roy and many others.
Ubud Writers-Readers Festival is an annual event that has become Southeast Asia's largest and most well-known literature event. It was initiated by Janet De Neefe as recovery project following the 2002 Bali bombing tragedy.
The Ubud Writers and Readers Festival now serve as a world-class venue for authors and readers to share ideas and discuss global issues. Last year, the festival managed to attract 26,000 literature enthusiasts from all over the globe.
