TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Listed tobacco company PT HM Sampoerna Tbk (HMSP) has announced that it would hold a rights offering, issuing 269,723,076 new shares for Rp77,000 each.
President director Paul Janelle is estimating a proceeds of Rp20,768 trillion after costs.
"The proceeds will be used as capital expenditure," Paul said in his office on Friday, October 9.
The proceeds will also be used to finance some of the company's loan settlements.
The rights issuance, said Paul, is done to comply with the Indonesia Stock Exchange's (IDX) rule mandating all listed companies to float at least 7.5 percent of its shares to the public.
As the majority shareholder in HM Sampoerna, PT Philip Morris Indonesia will have 5.68 percent of its stake diluted because of the rights offering.
"Philip Morris' stake will drop from 98.18 percent to 92.5 percent," Paul said.
Paul claims that this rights offering is the biggest in history for the Southeast Asian region.
"We hope that this corporate act will attract overseas stockholders to purchase shares in Indonesia."
