Subang Contractor Arrested for Rp1.8bn Asphalt Corruption

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Surya, a contractor for the suspected corruption of Gery Mang Subang circuit project in West Java worth Rp1.823 billion, has been arrested by Kejari Subang investigator team. Surya had already been summoned twice by the police for questioning, but has always been absent. “He has been detained since Tuesday night, Oct. 6,” Head of Kejari Special Crime Division Anang Suhartono told Tempo on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Surya is currently being detained in Penitentiary class-2A Sukamelang for a 20-day probation. He previously underwent a 2-hour examination by answering a few question related to his involvement in the Grey Mang circuit asphalt corruption.
“There might be other suspects, but we are still waiting for the examination progess,” said Anang.
The investigation for the case began May 6, 2015. In May 13, 2015, the Attorney General’s Office had raise its legal status. Based on the investigation result and after examining 12 witnesses, the contractor did not overlay the asphalt according to the contract agreement.
Once named suspect, Surya intended to cover the state loss reaching Rp627 million to the investigator. The matter was confirmed by Anang. “However, that does not mean that he will be release from custody,” said Anang.
