TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Resources Rizal Ramli admitted Thursday, October 8, to a meeting with the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) to discuss the management of Masela Block in Maluku.
“[On Wednesday] the head of SKK Migas, Pak Amien, came to my office. We brainstorm to find the optimum solution," he said after speaking in the Anniversary of the Jayabaya University on Thursday.
Rizal was assessing a solution is needed because it is not enough simply to compare the cost based on financial statements alone.
Previously, both Rizal and SKK Migas were at odds on the management of the Abadi gas field in Masela, Maluku.
SKK Migas assessed a floating liquefied gas plant (LNG) or offshore will be more efficient than Rizal’s proposal of a pipeline to Aru island and an LNG onshore plant.
SKK Migas claimed that based on 2013 figures, the value of an onshore refinery investment scheme reach 19.3 billion US dollars, more expensive than a floating LNG or offshore that cost 14.8 billion US dollars.
In addition, a refinery on land is risky because there is a deep ocean trench in the region.
