TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said that cyber world can provide a leverage for Indonesian economy, especially in tourism sector. He claimed that improving IT service in airports, immigration, and information center is the right measures.
“We need to also develop products creatively. IT can play a significant role, like in cloud computing as applied by Go-Jek,” he said. “It needs to contain 3C components, namely Communication, Content, and Commercial.”
Arief added that national tourism industry requires infrastructure support from online features and IT features, in order to improve service, sales, and development. “As the nation loosens visa regulation, we are expecting more tourists to come to Indonesia,” he said.
He claimed that IT infrastructure can boost sales due to digital marketing. Until recently, almost 60 percent of foreign tourists searched and bought tourism package through digital network.
Tourism in Indonesia in the first seven months of 2015 has increased, reaching a total 6 million, or 3 percen increase. The growing number is in opposite to that of other Asean countries such as Singapore (decreasing 4 percent) and Malaysia (decreasing 9 percent).
