BKPM Sets Up Help Desk for Food, Shoes, Textile Industries

TEMPO.CO, Cianjur - Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky said that the agency had set up a help desk dedicated to helping to solve problems faced by three industries (footwear, textile and food) that were reportedly most affected by the economic slowdown.

"According to the report that we’ve received, these three industries (shoes, textile and food industries) were most affected (by the economic slowdown), Franky said in Cianjur on Saturday (3/10).

He also said that the help desk would also conduct a special study to test the validity of the data on layoffs that was recently published.

According to Franky, data from the Ministry of Workforce that says that 43,000 workers had been laid off from footwear and textile industries was rather questionable because at least 1,000 new food factories, 350 textile factories and 100 shoe factories were built, according to the report.

Franky added said that 16 of those industries were in operation this year this year and have employed 60,000 workers. He also said according to the report of investment realization in the first semester, at least 680,000 jobs were created.

Therefore, Franky hoped that businessmen who have financial difficulties and thus were forced to lay off their workers would come to the help desk, which was officially launched on 9 October this year.

According to Franky, through the help desk, BKPM offers assistance related to bureaucracy, permits, and suspension of electricity tariff and taxes.

"We invite businessmen to report their problems to the desk” he added.

Franky further said that this help desk would very much depend on the initiatives of the businessmen themselves because if in three months no report were received, BKPM would close the desk.
