TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Banten Province takes turn to promote its culinary richness to national level by holding ‘2015 Banten Culinary Festival’ on Thursday, October 1 at The Royale Krakatau, Cilegon. The event was held to celebrate the province’s 15th anniversary and is planned to be held annually.
As many as 75 participants from a number of regions in Indonesia took part in the cooking competition. Participants are required to cook Banten’s traditional cuisines such as rabeg kambing. Susaedi, the Food and Beverages Manager of The Royale Krakatau, said the winner will have their cooking listed on the hotel’s menu.
Rabeg kambing is a beef stew that is cooked with lemongrass, lime leaf, nutmeg, clove and cinnamon to yield a mouth-watering delicacy.
“We want to introduce Banten’s distinctive dishes. It has so far been difficult to see what dish is actually typical to Banten,” Susaedi as quoted by Antara.
Up to date, the province has yet to have a center for its culinary diversity while it has a potential to be a destination for tourists from the capital city.
