TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - Riau Health Agency reported that as many as 54,135 residents in the province were affected by diseases due to exposure to the haze.
Haze due to forest and peat land fires have blanketed Riau in the past few months and the air pollution standard index is still at an unhealthy level.
"Patients come from community health centers (puskesmas) of all cities and regencies,” said Head of Riau Health Agency Andra Sjafril to Tempo on Saturday (3/10).
According to Andra, the residents were affected by respiratory infections/ISPA (44,960 people), skin irritation (3,589 people), eye irritation (2,753 people), asthma (2,753 people) and pneumonia (769 people).
Andra also said health service provided for the people affected by haze-related disease continued to be give and service posts as well as 24-hour community health centers in every regency and city are ready all the time.
