TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - If your are happen to be in Singapore and your are craving for Padang delicacies, you need not to worry because nasi padang restaurants are thriving in the country.

Differently what can be found in Indonesia, however, Padang foods in Singapore are served by order instead of served in mini banquets. Food website www.hungrygowhere.com has sum up five best restaurants that serve Padang cuisines in Singapore. Here is the list:

Istimewa Nasi Padang

Istimewa Nasi Padang restaurant is located in Bukit Merah, Redhill and Alexandra. Best menu worth trying in this restaurant is the fried chicken. However, other Padang foods are also available such as chicken curry, perkedel, spicy sotong, and rendang. A portion of nasi Padang and a side dish is around SGD8, but you can ask the attendant to serve you SGD2.50 portion or under.

Rumah Makan Minang

Rumah Makan Minang is located in Kampong Glam. Your nose will catch sambal mouth-watering sambal aroma pervading around the restaurant, as well as tender meats. Balado chicken offered here has perfect spicy-salty combination to be eaten with rice. The rendang gravy is well-rounded  and blended until it retains just enough texture from ground lemongrass and ginger.

The most popular dish in the restaurant is the tender squid in black sauce. Iced lime juice, and Bandung syrup mixed with condensed milk are types of drink you can choose from the menu.

Nasi Padang Sabar Menanti

The restaurant that is located in Palmer Road (formerly known as Jl Kandahar 48) is managed by the sibling of the restaurant’s founder. The rendang is tender and spicy. In addition to rendang, the famed sayur lodeh (vegetables in coconut milk broth/gravy) is also available for grab.

Besides, the restaurant’s grilled fish, which comes with slices of fresh shallots, green pepper, lime and sweet sauce is a tempting dish.

Warung M Nasir

Warung M Nasir fills up its display with variety of Indonesian traditional cakes (kueh). Despite the fact that foods are served on black plastic plates, rendang in this restaurant is a safe and quick choice. There are also chicken gulai, fried chicken and sayur lodeh offered until 21:30 local time.

Warong Nasi Pariaman

The restaurant is first-opened in 1948 and foods are served at room temperature, and less spicy. But here you’ll find tender--and slightly sweet rendang that your kids will love it. Other available menus include fork-tender grilled chicken with yellow sauce and  not-too-spicy balado fish. It is recommended to come to the restaurant before noon to get a full-set of menu options.
