TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-National Police chief Badrodin Haiti said the police are still investigating the murder of Salim Kancil in Lumajang, East Java. The police just found the involvement of Selok Awar-awar Village chief Hariyono in the killing.
However, according to Badrodin, it is possible there are other culprits being Hariyono. “We’re looking into whether there is someone that sponsors or funds the village chief,” said Badrodin on Friday.
Badrodin also ordered profession and security division chief to probe alleged negligence by the Lumajang Police, East Java. The ongoing investigation is expected to finish in a few days. “Maybe [Saturday] or next week,” he said.
The Lumajang Police was allegedly negligent in providing protection to the activist that reject the sand mining at Selok Awar-awar Village, Pasirian District, Lumajang. Because of that, several activists were tortured, causing the death of Salim Kancil and heavy injury to his partner, Tosan.
Before Salim Kancil and Tosan were tortured, on September 11, the activists led by Tosan and Salim Kancil had come to the Lumajang Police to report death threats and ask for protection. However, the police ignored them.
