West Java Records Increase in Foreign Tourists

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced on Thursday, October 1, 2015, that the number of foreign tourists visiting West Java through the Husein Sastranegara Airport and the Muara Jati Port in Cirebon increased significantly.

In August 2015, a total of 10,323 foreign tourists arrived at the Husein Sastranegara Airport, increasing by 55.96 percent when compared to July 2015 at 6,619 people. In addition, there were 83 foreign tourists arrived at the Muarajati Port in August 2015, increasing by 24.64 percent compared to the previous month.

Dody Gunawan Yusuf, the head of distribution statistics division at the West Java branch of the BPS, explained that Malaysian tourists accounted for the largest portion that stood at 2,527 people followed by Singaporeans at 916 people.

“In addition to Malaysia and Singapore, the number of foreign tourists from Japan, China, India, Thailand, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Saudi Arabia also increased,” Dody said on Thursday, October 1, 2015.

However, Dody said that the number of foreign tourists visiting West Java this year had dropped by 2.24 percent compared to the same period of last year.

“In August 2014, there were 10,648 foreign tourists visiting West Java,” he added.
