TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The city government of Bekasi, West Java will implement a smart city concept in the garbage disposal sector. "This is done to manage uncollected trash," Koswara, Head of Bekasi City Planning Department, said on Wednesday, September 30.
He believes that, with the concept, Bekasi's trash problem can be resolved.
Koswara said his department and the Sanitation Department are designing the concept as of now. It is targeted that by the beginning of next year, the system to tried out.
The smart city concept for trash collection will be able to be monitored online, as the garbage trucks will be equipped with GPS devices. The people of Bekasi can also make an online report whenever they see uncollected piles in their neighborhood or anywhere in the city.
"All they have to do is take a picture of it and report it to the operator," Koswara said. The operator on duty can then immediately direct officers to pick up the trash.
To ensure that the system works, he said, all fleet, personnel, and infrastructure must be ready.
"We are now building the necessary infrastructure in Supur Batu landfill," he said. "The trash will be processed into electricity."
