TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo on Monday, September 21, held a limited meeting on illegal drugs and terrorism. In this meeting, the president also invited Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Police Commissioner General Budi Waseso and Head of the National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Police Commissioner General Saut Usman Nasution.

“We are facing threat of illegal drugs and terrorism. In the face of these challenges, BNN, Bakamla (Maritime Security Agency), and BNPT are very strategic in realizing the national interest," said Jokowi when opening the meeting at the President's office, Monday.

The president said, in preventing and addressing the problem of terrorism, necessary concrete steps by BNN, BNPT, and Bakamla are needed. "So they can function optimally," he said. The President also stressed the importance of institutional strengthening the three institutions to cope with the challenges. "So we can face the challenges in these three areas."

A number of cabinet ministers were also present in the meeting, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Panjaitan; Police Chief Badrodin Haiti; TNI Chief Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo; State Secretary Pratikno; Cabinet Secretary Pramono Agung; Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro; and the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani.
