Newmont Appoints New President Director

20 September 2015 07:34 WIB

Newmont Sepakati Kontrak Karya Baru

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mining Giant PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) is set to appoint a new leader on 20 September 2015.

The replacement comes as the current president director of the company, Martiono Hadianto, is set to enter retirement period.

PT. Newmont spokesperson Rubi Purnomo said that Martiono has long informed the company that he decided to retire once he reached the age of 70.

“On 20 September, Martiono celebrates his 70th birthday and in coincides with the end of his assignment at Newmont,” Rubi said through a text message to Tempo on Friday (18/9).

Rubi added that Martiono’s replacement as the company’s president director is Rachmat Makassau.

“Rachmat has been appointed as the new president director and the administrative process is still under way,” he said.

For the record, the American mining company is having a hard time in its business as it has not obtained an export recommendation letter from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The ministry is still waiting for the extension of an agreement to build a smelter between Newmont and PT Freeport Indonesia in order to give export recommendation.

Meanwhile, Newmont’s concentrate export ends on 18 September 2015.

Newmont has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Freeport to build a joint smelter and the MoU is valid until 30 September 2015.

However, as of now, there is no certainty yet about the follow up of the agreement between the two companies.
