TNI Sends 1,050 Soldiers to Put Out Sumatera Land Fires

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Army (TNI) has deployed a land and forest fire prevention team to Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) and Banyuasin (MUBA), two districts in the South Sumatra Province. As many as 1,050 personnel were sent to the districts to help put out fires.
The Sriwijaya II Regional Military Commander Maj. Gen. Purwadi Mukson said the TNI doldiers will help to their comrades who are on duty in fire-prone areas.
"The land and forest fires in South Sumatra have become increasingly worrying," Purwadi said on Thursday, September 10, 2015.
The TNI officers, comprising of personnel from the Strategic Command (Kostrad) and Marines corps, will be on duty for the next 14 days.
In performing their duties, the soldiers will be equipped with standard fire extinguishers, chainsaws and speedboats.
