TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Stock Exchange stated that the current economic condition is much better compared to the 1998 economic crisis. Back in 1998, around 70 percent companies in Indonesia had experienced losses. Meanwhile, currently, 80 percent companies in Indonesia were reported to gain profit and are in good conditions.
"It means that today, Indonesia has better products," said Tito Sulistio, CEO of the Indonesia Stock Exchange on Monday, September 7, 2015.
Speaking under the same tone of confidence, Bank Mandiri CEO Budi G. Sadikin, said that the economy was ruined back in 1998 and inflation rate was recorded at 60 percent. Ten years after, the government has managed to lower inflation rate to 10 percent, and in 2015 inlfation rate currently sits at the seven percent level.
"We can survive 2008. We'll make it through this year," Budi said. Although the ongoing crisis is not as severe as the 2008 crisis, Budi admitted that today's economic crisis has the worst psychological and emotional impact on Indonesian citizens.
