Imported Cows Arrived, Beef Prices Yet to Stabilize

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As much as 2,390 Australian imported cows have arrived on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. However, these cows cannot immediately stabilize beef prices. "It needs 14 days of recovery before the cows can [be sent to slaughterhouses]," said Director of the State Logistics Agency Fadzri Sentosa, on Thursday, September 3, 2015.
Bulog currently monitors beef prices in the market as a reference to determine imported beef prices. Fadzri claimed that Bulog hoped that beef prices could be lower than Rp 100,000 per kilogram. Currently, beef are being sold at prices ranging from Rp 110,000 to Rp. 120,000 per kilogram. "We aim to stabilize the price," Fadzri said.
Bulog has set a new import quota of 50,000 cows from Australia in response to to the skyrocketing beef prices. The cows will be delivered in stages.
