TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla denies that the Head of Indonesian Police (Polri) Criminal Investigative Unit, Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso is about to get fired over a case that is currently being handled by Polri.
That said, the Vice President did allude to a demotion - stating that it is a very common occurence within institutions such as Polri.
"Budi Waseso is not fired - if something were to happen to him it is probably a demotion to another post, which is quite a common occurence within Polri's ranks," said Kalla in Jakarta on Thursday evening, September 3, 2015.
Kalla also said that the final decision to fire or demote Waseso from his position is the prerogative of Polri Chief, Gen. Badrodin Haiti. "Once more, I'd like to say that things like this happen all the time within Polri - so please don't exaggerate it out of proportion," Kalla said.
Polri Chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti himself had said that no decision has been made with regards to the position of the Chief of Polri's Criminal Investigative Unit, which is currently held by Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso.
Badrodin said that his meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Law, Politics and Human Rights Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan on Wednesday evening is not related to Budi Waseso. "The meeting was about a planned visit to the state-electricity company, as well as the National Police Commission (Kompolnas)," Badrodin said.
Badrodin added that he is still discussing the issue with the Polri's Ranking Commission - before the discussion reaches a conclusion, no one knows for sure whether it is Budi Waseso that they are planning to demote or not.
