TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) chairman Neta S. Pane said Wednesday, September 2, that Budi Waseso will be replaced by Comr. Gen. Saud Usman Nasution, currently the chief of the National Counterterrorism Agency.

He said that he received information that Polri chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti had conducted high ranking promotions and duty rotation council (Wanjakti) assembly on Wednesday.

Neta sid the Indonesian National Police (Polri) institution was defeated in facing the pressure to remove Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso as the chief of criminal investigation division (Bareskrim).

He said Polri should have been able to maintain Budi’s position as Bareskrim chief. “Polri eventually lost,” said Neta on Wednesday.

Neta also said Polri’s head of education and training division Comr. Gen. Syafruddin’s meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla was to calm the situation. According to Neta, Syafruddin is close to Kalla and hopefully can abate the situation after the removal of Budi.

Regarding Syafruddin’s visit to Kalla, maybe he wanted to calm the situation because he is not the type of person who wants to accept his own friend’s position in condition such as right now,” he said.

It was previously reported that Syafruddin’s visit to Kalla was related to Budi’s replacement. However, Kalla denied it, saying Syafruddin’s visit was merely reporting Polri’s education institution.
