TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Increasing price of import soybeans from the weakening of rupiah towards dollar, does not make tofu productions in Bandung to stop. Head of Paguyuban Tofu Maker Forum Bandung Dedi Yusuf said soybean prices are relatively stabil compared to the previous years.
“I saw in television that tofu merchants are having difficult times and are going out of business. Its a lie. Don’t make opinions that will frighten society,” Dedi said in Bandung on Monday, Aug. 31.
According to Dedi, tofu makers worry excessively. Soybean prices previously climbed to Rp8,000 per kilogram. However, soybean prices currently stabilizes between Rp6,000 – Rp7,000 per kilogram. “Compared to yesterday, soybean price is up but still reasonable. So if the previous price ranges from Rp8,000 – Rp8,500, today‘s price is still fair,” said Dedi.
Dedi also claimed that until Monday, Aug 31, there has not been any complaints. Tofu makers are increasing their production. Low-budget tofu makers that started with just 20 jerangs per day, is now up by 25-30 jerangs.
Aside from the increase in production, the revenue for tofu makers remain normal. “Sales is currently good because tofus are being hunted to replace soaring chicken prices,” said Dedi.
