TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Director of Special Economic Crime Brigadier General Victor Edi Simanjuntak commented on the rumors of the removal of his boss, Chief of Criminal Investigation (Bareskrim), Commissioner-General Budi Waseso. "If the case of cranes is what caused the removal, I will resign from the police as well," said Victor, when contacted on Wednesday, September 2, 2015.
The national police is currently investigating the case of mobile cranes procurement at Tanjung Priok ports managed by PT Pelindo II. Bareskrim was investigating the case allegedly involving President Director of Pelindo II, RJ Lino. When investigators searched the Pelindo office on Friday, August 28, Lino directly call the Minister Bappenas Djalil to protest the raid.
Victor refused to investigate corruption cases again if people who were under investigation easily get away after making a call to a minister. "Do not send police to investigate corruption anymore, let the KPK do it,” said Victor, who said he knows nothing about the removal of his superior, Budi Waseso.
Budi Waseso himself calls the Pelindo case as: “not outstanding, just an ordinary corruption case." During the search, Budi Waseso guaranteed that investigators already held warrant from the court.
He said his enforcement action was not influenced by any interest. "I do not want to be intervened,” he said after repeatedly answering the media’s incessant questions.
After one hour, Budi finally finished serving journalists. He excused himself to attend his next agenda.
