TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Taufik Kurniawan affirmed the Parliament rejects debt from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if the institution offers loans to Indonesia.
"We are not in the position to ask for or expect any help from the IMF and we do not ask for IMF support in crisis," he said at the Nusantara III Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 2.
Taufik said the planned meeting between the leadership of the DPR with IMF Director Christine Lagarde on Wednesday afternoon, would not discuss debt.
Moreover, according to him, the leadership of the DPR will not solicit funds or loans from the IMF to overcome the current economic conditions.
"The IMF also says they will not offer loans to Indonesia but [discussions are] related to the implementation of a joint conference between Bank Indonesia and the IMF on Wednesday," he said.
Taufik said in the meeting with the Director of the IMF, the House leadership will discuss the global economic conditions.
According to him, the House will give their views on the present situation including the decline of the exchange rate.
"The IMF has a closeness with the United Nations and the government of the United States. We will ask how long the will the US play their dominant role in the global economy," he said.
He explained that developing countries in the world that is not directly related to the US had their economy disrupted, after the US issued their economic policy.
Also according to him, war in world oil prices which led to a decline in oil prices created adverse conditions as well as dilemma to countries in the world.
"Countries that depend on the stability of world oil prices are harmed," he said.
