Jewelry Export Up by 14.91 Percent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jewelries or gemstones are up by 14.91 percent in monthly export cost, with a value of US$76.5 million in May 2015.
“This means that jewelry industry including gemstones and semi-gemstones has huge opportunity and very potential to be further developed,” Industry Minister Saleh Husin said in a press conference on Sunday.
The Industry Ministry recorded the number of companies focusing in the jewelry industry have reached 36,636 units and has been able to absorb 332,802 laborers with a production value of Rp11.15 trillion.
The government has requested that all parties work hard and support one sector to another, especially to improve the national industry, said Saleh.
“It is expected to boost the national economic growth amid the global economic slowdown,” said Saleh.
The Industry Minister is representing President Joko Widodo in officially closing the Exhibition and National Competition of Stone Archipelago 2015 in BSD, South Tangerang.
The ministry is partnering with geologists in mapping the gemstone business to increase the knowledge and welfare of gemstone craftsmen.
