Tension Rises in W.Sulawesi After Death of Soldier by Cops

TEMPO.CO, Makassar - Tension in Polewali Mandar (Polman), West Sulawesi, is palpable following a shootout that killed Second Private Yuliadi, member of Infantry Battalion 721/Makkasar, on Sunday August 30. Spokesman of the West and South Sulawesi Police, Senior Commissioner Frans Barung Mangera, said that a number of police facility have been set on fire and ransacked following the incident.
Barung claimed that a police outpost in Palippis, as well as a car and six office bikes in Polman Police, were destroyed. Moreover, two police officers were injured in the attack.
Barung added that the police will conduct joint investigation with the Military District Command VII/Wirabuana on the matter. The army will also summon military police to help expose the murder.
The conflict began with the death of Second Private Yuliadi that was shot at his lower stomach near roadrace pit. Prior to the shootout, there had been an incident involving the police and army, that might as well resulted in the shootout.
