TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Economist Dradjad Hari Wibowo suggested the government to make a breakthrough in the economic package to be released next week. According to Dradjad, if the economic package fails to convince investors, the impact on the country’s economy will be worse than before.

“If this economic package fails, people will think that the Indonesian government has run out of ammunition. The impacts would be worse than not releasing an economic package,” Drajad said in Jakarta on Saturday, August 29.

Dradjad, who is also a politician from the National Mandate Party (PAN), said that his party would help the government to find solutions for the economic slowdown despite being an opposition to the government. Drajad said that people would be affected by the current economic condition.

Dradjad explained that the current situation is not worse than the 1998 financial crisis, but no better than in 2008.

“Our economy is no worse than [the financial crisis in] 1998. But compared to 2008, it’s worse,” he said.

Dradjad warned the government that the condition would led to the financial crisis just like in 1998. The government, Dradjad added, could only count on the economic package to stop the economic slowdown.
