TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said that the weakening of the Rupiah against US dollar has in fact given benefits for the country’s fisheries sector.
"It's a blessing! God is helping the fishery sector,” Susi said on Saturday, August 29.
For the record, during the market closing on Friday, Rupiah was traded at Rp 13,983 per US dollar.
Susi went on to say that the weakening of the Rupiah had boosted fish imports and reduced fish imports. Nevertheless, Susi admitted that there are not many sectors that get benefits from the weakening of the rupiah.
"That’s why, as an anticipatory measure, we have to reduce imports,” Susi concluded.
