TEMPO.CO, Mecca - National carrier Garuda Indonesia was fined 120,000 riyal or around Rp452 million (with the estimated rate: Rp3.770/riyal) after eight of its airplanes were forced to delay landing at Amir Muhammad bin Abdul Aziz (AMAA) airport in Medina.
Information received by Media Center Haji (MCH) in Mecca on Thursday 27 August 2015 said that the fine came eight Garuda Indonesia airplanes landed outside the allocated time as the consequence of the delay of visa process of a number of pilgrims.
Pilgrims who did not yet obtain visa from the Saudi Arabia Embassy before departure were forced to delay their departure and the empty seats were occupied by pilgrims who had already obtained the visa.
It was this process that took a while, prompting the delay of Garuda flights from a number of embarkation. Those embarkation incudes Ujungpandang (UPG) 1 embarkation that departed on 21 August and seven embarkations from Solo (SOC).
"The fine is around 15,000 riyal for one aircraft,” said Garuda Indonesia Operational Manager at the AMAA airport, Saleh Nugraha, adding that a similar case happened in 1995.
