TEMPO.CO, Kupang - The Indonesian Military (TNI) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday (29/8) arrested 139 illegal migrant workers who are ready to be sent to other regions. Among those workers were three babies and five infants.
"Among those migrant workers arrested, there are three babies and five infants,” said Commander of TNI in Kupang Brigadier General TNI Heri Wiranto to the journalists.
Those migrant workers were arrested by TNI in a shelter in Kupang city after the Indonesian Military received reports from the residents who suspected it as a place to accommodate illegal migrant workers.
After the TNI arrested them, Heri added that TNI collected their data and handed them to the NTT regional police for further process.
"We have already handed those migrant workers to the regional police for further process,” Heri said.
Heri further said that TNI continued its commitment to fight against rampant human trafficking in NTT. Therefore, he hoped that the people would cooperate with TNI to fight against human trafficking in the province.
"We are committed to fighting against human trafficking. So, we expect the people to support it by reporting it to us should they have information about human trafficking,” he concluded.
