TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla supports President Joko Widodo’s proposal to merge several state agencies. However, Kalla said the regulation that supports the establishment of a state agency must be reviewed first.
“The team is gathering data on state agencies that are under the law or government regulation or ministerial decree,” said Kalla on Tuesday.
Kalla said if a state agency is under the law, then it cannot be merged. On the contrary, if the establishment of a state agency is under presidential decree or government regulation, then it can be merged without removing its authority.
Regarding Presidential Staff Office, which is under presidential decree, Kalla did not answer when asked if the office would be merged. “That’s for later,” Kalla said.
Previously, President Joko Widodo intended to merge state agencies on the ground of efficiency. Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan merger will be conducted on agencies with poor performance.
