TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Unilever Indonesia is teaming up with WWF to reach to wider public with its green campaign Bright Future. The campaign, of which main focus is to protect trees in Indonesia and in Brazil, invites people to get involved in its programs by registering on the website www.brightfuture.unilever.co.id.

Devy Suradji, Marketing Director of WWF Indonesia said high deforestation rate is one of many factors that speed up climate change. More than 170 million hectares of forest is predicted to vanish within time period of 2010 to 2030.

“Indonesia and Brazil has recorded highest deforestation rate,” said Devy to Antaranews.

The forest protection program in the campaign is called the “Project Sunlight” and is emerged in Sesaot protected forest in Sesaot Village, Narmada Subdistrict, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, or in the west of Mt Rinjani National Park.

The forest is an important water catchment and is supporting irigation and drinking water for almost five million people in West Lombok Regency.

“Sesaot forest is currently 48 percent in good condition. This campaign would be a huge benefit for us because the area is critical in supporting our irigation and drinking water need,” said Muhammad Amin, Deputy Governor of West Nusa Tenggara.

This campaign is also launched in five other countries including: Indonesia, United States, England, Brazil and India.
