Indonesia, Norway Strengthen Ties in Fisheries

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Maritime and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti and Norwegian Fisheries Minister Elisabeth Aspaker have agreed to develop cooperation in Aquaculture, Sustainable Fisheries, as well as in Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IIUF).
The agreement was signed when Minister Susi conducted an official visit to Norway in a bid to strengthen ties in fisheries with Norway on August 18-21, 2015. The ministers from both countries also agreed to boost fisheries trade, with Minister Aspaker suggesting that Indonesia need to take advantage of Norway’s zero tariff import policy on fish products.
In addition, the ministers also discussed an establishment of a bilateral consultation forum on fishery, which was a follow up of a bilateral meeting between both countries’ foreign ministers.
In addition to attend the bilateral meeting, Susi spoke in a seminar entitled 20 Years Anniversary Celebration The Code of Conduct and Aquaculture.
“We want better marine conservation but at the same time we want to increase fish production,” Susi said in a press release on Saturday, August 22, 2015.
Susi’s visit to Norway was a follow up of a bilateral meeting between the Indonesian.
President and the Norwegian Prime Minister in Jakarta on April 14, 2015. In November, Minister Aspaker has been scheduled to visit Indonesia.
