Indonesia, Singapore Agree to Improve Civil Servants` Competence

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Manpower Ministry has agreed to cooperate with the Singapore Polytechnic International PTE LTD for improving the competence of civil servants.
The Secretary General of the Manpower Ministry, Abdul Wahab Bangkona, and the General Manager of the Singapore Polytechnic, Lee Leck Seng, signed a memorandum of understanding to that effect at the Manpower Ministry on Tuesday.
"The cooperation will be in the form of training, and aimed at improving the competence of civil servants in the Manpower Ministry in terms of increasing productivity and innovating public services," Bangkona said.
The cooperation program will be organized by the Singapore Polytechnic and financed jointly by the Temasek Foundation and the Manpower Ministry.
Hopefully, the training will help improve the competence of civil servants through their applying these good concepts to internal and external public services, Bangkona said.
"The government wants to see more and more civil servants being able to apply the concept of design thinking in providing public services and is preparing a guide for improving the productivity of civil servants in providing public services," he said.
The training was badly needed to enable civil servants to boost productivity and competence as an initial step to strengthen human resources at government agencies, he said.
Bangkona warmly welcomed the cooperation between the Temasek Foundation and the Singapore Polytechnic.
"We hope that the institutions of Singapore and Indonesia will share knowledge in providing good public services. Furthermore, Singapore has a good reputation in terms of public services," he added.
