Red Chilies Price Rises, Tomato Price Drops

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the soaring prices of beef and chicken in a number of markets, the price of red chilies has also increased in a number of traditional markets in Depok.

Recently, the price of beef had reached Rp 140,000 per kilogram and the price of chicken Rp 40,000 per kilogram.

Ratno (47) one of the traders at Kemiri Muka market said that in the past one week, the price of red chilies has continued to increased from Rp 60,000 per kilogram into Rp 80-90,000 per kilogram.

However, he said that the price of green chilies the price is quite stable, which is at Rp. 60,000 per kilogram.

In the meantime, Ratno also said that the prices of several commodities have dropped, including red onion, from Rp 28,000 per kilogram has dropped into Rp 20,000 per kilogram and tomatoes, which is now priced at Rp 3,000 per kilogram.

As for the price of garlic, he said that the price rose by Rp. 8,000 into Rp 30,000 compared to the price last week.

"The increase in the price of red chilies is probably because regions in Central Java that usually supply it are now experiencing drought,” he added.
