TEMPO.CO, Bengkulu - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has allowed civil servants to participate in campaigns for upcoming regional heads elections.
“Civil servants are allowed to participate in campaigns, provided that the will not wear or use government attributes, such as official uniform or vehicle,” Zainan Sagiman, a member of the Bengkulu branch of Election Supervisory Agency, in a coordination meeting of Bengkulu regional heads elections on Saturday, August 15, 2015.
Zainan explained that every citizen, including civil servant, has a right to participate in political campaigns. Zainan added that supervision on political campaigns would become an important part in the country’s democracy. Therefore, Zainan called on public to comply with the rules and regulations on regional elections and campaigns.
Parsadaan Harahap, the head of the Bengkulu branch of Election Supervisory Agency, held a coordination meeting to align perceptions on basic regulations and mechanism of regional election campaigns.
Attending the meeting were members of the Election Supervisory Committee, regency/city KPUs, and representatives of mass media.
“Mass media needs have an understanding on campaign regulations and provide public with proper political education,” Parsadaan said.
