TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) revealed that drug trafficking management, at times, comes from behind bars. Deputy of Eradication Unit, Inspector General, Deddy Fauzi Elhakim, said that 75 percent of drug cases were run by inmates.
"Not all of them, but most of our arrests have led to inmates’ controlling narcs," said Deddy on Friday, August 7.
In addition, Head of Cipinang Penitentiary, Asep Sutandar, said that 50 percent of Cipinang Inmates are from narc cases. Asep claimed that 20 guards at his disposal are having a difficult time monitoring a total of 3,400 inmates.
"It is our problem, over capacity. We are supposed to shelter only 1,136 people," said Asep.
Moreover, Head of Public Relation department of the Law and Human Rights Ministry, Akbar Hadi, said that during 2015, the ministry has released 20 officers from duty due to narc cases. "We enforce assertive measures, following minister’s instruction," said Akbar.
