TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama was not surprised to hear on the incident that occurred at Gembrong Market in East Jakarta yesterday night. Ahok says fire will continue to lurk if the community does not alter their lifestyle.
Ahok considers the lifestyle of society living in the in the area of Gembrong Market is chaotic. Houses are built close to one another while cable installations are a mess. Particularly when the people often burn garbages anywhere, Ahok said Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Previously, Gembrong Market was engulfed in flames which scorched at least 25 stalls within the market. The blazing fire lasted three hours before finally being extinguished at 11pm.
Ahok urged society living in filthy areas to immediately move to a flat. Living in flats developed by the Government of Jakarta is very comfortable. Aside from the building quality that is equal to an apartment, society would only require to pay maintenance fee, while all facilities including electricity and water has already been installed neatly. Residents living in government-owned flats will be given 80 percent subsidy on rent, said Ahok.
