TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of South Kalimantan has proposed for the construction of a bridge connecting the island of Kalimantan and Laut Island. The project is estimated to have an investment worth of Rp 3.6 trillion.
Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basoeki Hadimoeljono said the South Kalimantan government has requested that the project be included in the central government's national program plan.
The local government is currently conducting a study over the project's aspects, including regional development, local aspirations, network systems, as well as technical and financial aspects. So far, the study revealed that the project is not feasible.
Basoeki said the South Kalimantan local government is asking for financial support from the central government, as the existence of the bridge is believed to boost economic growth.
The estimated cost of Rp3.6 trillion was calculated using a joint financing scheme between the central government, the provincial government of South Kalimantan, the Kota Baru District Regency, and the Tanah Bumbu Regency.
