Minister Susi Seizes 6 Vietnamese Ships for Stealing Fishes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After arresting four illegal Vietnamese vessels on July 29, the Maritime and Fishery Ministry apprehends six other illegal vessels waving Vietnamese flags.
The Director General of Marine and Fishery Resource Supervision Asp Burhanudin said those six vessels were caught in the Indonesian Exclusive Economic Zone, South China Sea, along Anambas waters, Riau Island. “They were arrested for violations of the law,” Asep told Tempo on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The vessels were arrested by Hiu Macan 005 Surveillance Vessel in Aug. 1 for not having a fishing permit from the Indonesian government.
Asep said all vessels comprise 43 Vietnamese crews. Those vessels are; MV BV 95228 TS (35 gross tons), VM BV 95038 TS (35 gross tons), MV BV 95609 TS (36 gross tons), MV BV 95472 TS (32 gross tons), MV BV 95632 TS (36 gross tons) and MV BV 75169 TS (32 gross tons).
When apprehended, the vessels were caught carrying fish load of approximately 9,171 kg and are suspected to have violated Article 93 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 27 (2) Regulation No.45 Year 2009 on changes to regulation no.31 year 2004 on Fishery, with a maximum sentence of six months imprisonment and Rp20 billion in fine.
