TEMPO.CO, Padang - Approximately 270 types of fabrics with various motives will be displayed in the archipelago exhibition which will be held at the Adityawarman Museum in West Sumatra, museum official said Monday, August 3.

“The fabrics exhibited are various types of fabrics that exist in Indonesia, including songket, tenun, batik and others,” Head of Adityawarmana Museum Noviyanti said in Padang.

She said this kind of event is held annually with different themes, concepts and location. This year, it will take place at the Adityawarman Museum with an archipelago fabric theme.

Noviyanti expected the event to attract the interest of younger generations.

Other than the archipelago fabric exhibition, the museum will also invite the National Handicraft Agency from 11 districts in West Sumatra to show off their fabric products.

A drawing contest which involve all ages, fashion carnival, and akik (gemstone) exhibition will also be held.

“The event will be enlivened by a modern and traditional live music so visitors can participate in singing folk songs,” said Noviyanti.

The event will be participated by local museums throughout the nation which will be divided into five zones: Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua. At least five private museums are interested to participate in the event.

Each team will have 10-15 members, consisting of the Head of museum and several staffs.

The event will be held for 4 days from August 5-8 2015 and will be opened by the head of national museum on Wednesday.

“We are confident that this event can cover one-fourth or 25 percent of the annual visit of the museum. The annual visit is 120,484 people,” she said.
