House to Discuss Pilkada With President Jokowi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The House is yet to decide its stance on the possible postpone on regional elections following seven cases of solo candidate. House officials said on Tuesday, August 4, that they will discuss the matter to President Joko Widodo on Wednesday.

"We will consult the matter with the president tomorrow in Bogor presidential palace," said Deputy Chief Fahri Hamzah.

Previously, the electoral commission (KPU) has stated that seven electoral regions are without contending candidates. It means that regional election in those areas, namely Blitar, Tasikmalaya, Mataram, Timor Tengah Utara, Surabaya, Pacitan, and Samarinda, will be postponed.

Earlier this afternoon, Jokowi and Home Minister, Legal and Human Rights Minister, KPU, and Electoral Monitoring Board gathered to discuss the matter. The government has prepared three options, with the first one being to continue the election without contending candidates. The second option cites that registration period will be extended. The last option is to postpone regional election, which is in accordance to KPU Regulation No. 12/2015.
