Interior Minister to Inaugurate North Sumatra Acting Governor

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Interior Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said on Tuesday, August 4, that he will immediately send a radiogram to inaugurate North Sumatra Deputy Governor Tengku Erry Nuradi as the Acting Governor.  

North Sumatra Governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho and his wife Evi Susanti has been officially detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (CEC) on Monday.

Both were detained after undergoing examination as suspects in the bribery case of Medan’s Administrative Court judge.

Haerudin, attorney to M. Yagari Bhastari aka Gerry who was arrested by the CEC during the bribery, said that Gatot and Evi are the mastermind behind the bribery practice and that the CEC has evidence of the recording between Evi and Gerry.

Gatot-Evi are charged with articles that regulates bribery committed together. The articles are Article 6 paragraph 1 a, Article 5 paragraph 1 a or b, Article 13 on the Eradication of Corruption Law in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph 1 and 55 paragraph 1 on the Book of Criminal Code.

Tjahjono said that Law No.23 Year 2014 on the Local Government states that a Regional Head who is currently serving time is prohibited from carrying out his duties and authorities. The PDIP politician also said he will be issuing a letter of appointment based on the arrest warrant from the CEC.
