TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A deadly explosion that occurred 3:30pm Monday at Puri Pattene housing complex, Makassar, was not linked to terrorism. According to a temporary investigation result, the blast killed two residents and was triggered by a fish bomb.
The South and West Sulawesi Regional Police Department Chief Inspector General Anton Setiadji said the blast occurred when the two victims, Hj. Ramla and Sani, were attempting to make a fish bomb. Authorities did not discover any network traces behind the tragical incident.
“The detonator and explosive substance was used to create a fish bomb and will possibly be marketed. They were suspected of making a fish bomb but accidentally exploded,” Anton said Monday, Aug. 3.
In the crime scene investigated by Gegana bomb squad and Biringkanaya Precinct Police, authorities unveiled about 20 electronic detonators and gunpowder residues and believed that the incident was not linked to a terrorism act following President Jokowi’s visit to Makassar.
The South and West Sulawesi Regional Police Department Public Relations Chief Sr.Comm Frans Barung Mangera said based on the temporary investigation result, the bomb originated from a fish bomb, but his side will conduct a series of investigations to ensure the matter.
