TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several areas in Jakarta earlier on Friday this week saw heavy rain. However, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) explained that the rain was not the sign of the end of a dry season in the city.
"Rainy season in Jakarta is expected to begin in October or November,” Deputy of BMKG Chief for Climatology Affairs, Widada Sulistya told Tempo on Saturday, August 1, 2015.
The hot weather, Widada added, caused disruption in the circulation of atmosphere in the form of the vortex of wind that causes rain.
Such condition is a common occurrence when the intensity of sunray is very high, he said.
"We ask the people not to think that Friday’s rain was the sign that rainy season will come soon,” he added.
For the record, besides Jakarta, Puncak area in Bogor also saw heavy rain on Friday, leading to the drastic increase in the water level of Ciliwung river.
