TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Evan Christopher Situmorang (12), a junior high school (SMP) student who went to Flora Junior High School in Kaliabang Tengah sub-district, North Bekasi district, Bekasi, died of a worsening health condition after participating a student orientation week (MOS) activities.
"After joining the MOS, Evan told us that he was ill,” said Jossey Sitomorang (42), his father at his house on Pondok Ungu Permai residential complex in Bahagia village, Babelan district, Bekasi regency on Sunday, August 2, 2015.
Jossey also said that Evan’s leg were swollen and had bruised after his son was told to walk for 4 kilometers from his school by the MOS committee on Thursday.
According to Jossey, he was told that the walking activity was meant to ‘deepen the love for nature’. Afterwards, Evan’s mother massaged his calf and feet.
On the following day, Evan went back to school, where he played futsal, his favorite sport. However, due to his unfit physical condition, Evan collapsed.
Unfortunately, his health worsened and his parents had to take him to a community health center (puskesmas) in Medansatria district, where the doctor said that Evan suffered from dehydration and fatigue; thus he needed much rest.
"The doctor also gave him medicine and vitamins," Jossey said.
Two weeks later, Evan’s condition had not improved yet. However, he still attended classes on the first day of school on July 27. However, his condition did not improved, Evan collapsed again on the second day of school.
When Evan was taken to the hospital, his father said that he was surprised when the doctor said that their son suffered from uric acid because since he was little, Evan had never had a history of uric acid. His health continued to decline.
On Thursday last week, Evan had convulsions and he had to be rushed to the hospital. Due to lack of medical equipment at the hospital, Evan was referred to Cipta Harapan Indah hospital. Unfortunately, upon arrival at the hospital, his life could not be saved.
Evan’s body was laid to rest at Perwira cemetery on Saturday.
