TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - Haze from forest and peat land fire has taken its toll on the residents’ health as 2,712 residents in the province had been affected by respiratory infections (ISPA).
"Weather condition in Riau is in an unhealthy condition,” said Head of Riau Health Agency Andra Sjafril to Tempo on Friday (31/7).
Besides respiratory inspections, Riau Health Agency also reported other diseases that have also attacked Riau residents.
The agency said that as many as 84 people have suffered from pneumonia, 84 people suffer from asthma, 162 people suffer from eye irritation and 344 people suffer from skin irritation. In total, there are 3,373 health cases due to haze.
Andra admitted that air pollution in Riau had worsened the residents’ health.
Therefore, he said that the Health Agency urged the residents, especially those who suffer from heath and lung problems not go outside their homes and if they have to do outdoor activities, they have to wear masks.
"We have also urged the schools to remind the students to always wear masks during classes,” he concluded.
